Backpack Trip Perth, Australia Day 2

25 August 2013 Sunday
We slept in 6 person dorm. The 3 roommates went to party on Saturday night. Only one came back to sleep. We woke up and headed to the pantry to prepare our breakfast. We bought milk and ate with bread & strawberries. We enjoy our breakfast and met a girl who was working in the Pirates Backpackers Hostel. She was just a high school students that work overseas to earn her school fees to study medical. We share our experienced and found out we must be grateful to study in college/uni without earning any school fees by ourselves.

After our breakfast, we continue our to explore Fremantle. We went to the Prison of Fremantle. There offered multiple tours. The prices are between 19 AUD to 99 AUD. It was out of our budget so we just stand in front of the building to capture pic to 'prove' that we been here.
Then we continue to walk around and found out there is a path to the behind of the prison. We saw a basketball court and the design behind of the jail. We actually can see the design almost the same as the Prison TV Series.

We made a booking for car rental for next day. We were trying to find out where is the street to the car rental shop. The street were just around the Fremantle Prison. We are walking all around according to the map and found out the street was just right behind the prison.

Then we continue walk to the Fremantle Park. Our destination actually was the Fremantle Arts Centre. We pass by the Fremantle Park and saw a school there. I was just standing there looking at the school fields. The both travelmates laughing at me thought--> scanning guys in the school fields & searching for young energetic muscle guy in the field.
I left the place with disappointing because those are just kids. Haha...

After walked pass the Fremantle Park, we headed to the Fremantle Arts Centre. It was free admission. We visited the art centre and walk around. There were some pictures that we cant understand. We just walk one round and we were sitting at the park. I saw one group of photographer learning to capture picture around the centre. I saw there was free Wifi and you know...we started to play our phones. Haha...

We continue to walk back to the Fremantle Market directions. We saw
St Patrick's Catholic Church. We went there to capture picture outside. We were so thirsty and we headed to the Coles Supermarket and Woolstores Shopping Centre. We can get cheap drinks, biscuits, daily use, milk, foods and alot of stuff.

We prepared our own recycle bag in our travelling bag so we able to carry the things we bought using the recycle bag. We headed to the Fremantle Town Hall. There is a park beside the town hall. We sat there and captured alot of pics. Travelling is to having relax time without rushing to another destination. We sat at the park looking at our pictures. Looking around to see any handsome guys but most were families.
There was a room that a guy drawing inside. We had the 'Art Feel' by looking from outside the window.

Its lunch time and we headed to Fremantle Market to search for foods. There were multiple food stores in the Fremantle Market. There was free orange juice tasting at the Alive Juice food store. We ordered Gozleme which looks like chicken wrap.
We ordered sausage bread too. We bought brocolli from the vegetables store for next day dinner. We bought cheese, salad vege, fruits from diferrent stalls. I still remember the brocolli costs 1 AUD only.

Then me ( big prawn head) forgot to bring out my transperth card in the morning.
After lunch, we went back to hostel to keep our vege & fruits into the fridge AND go to the room to take my transperth card. We were planning to go Cottesloe Beach in the evening. In order to go the beach, we have to take train so remember take your transperth card.

We went to the Shipwreck Galleries Musuem. Shipwreck Galleries is a maritime archaeolgy museum. When we were at the musuem, we were quite tired and lazy. There provided seats in the musuem. We sat there and look at the relics from ships wrecked. We sat sat here sat sat there and discussed the relics and rest a while for next destination.

We headed to the train station and sat train to the Cottesloe station. From the Cottesloe station, we had to walk for a 15 mins distance to reach the Costteloe beach. The wind from the beach freezinggg!! We went there to see sunset. Cottesloe beach is a very nice place to sit there with best friends and enjoy the beach. You can see a number of people jogging beside the beach. Kinda sad there were no sunshine boys ( its freezing, sure don't have sunshine boys ) hahaha...

After the sunset, we headed back to Fremantle. Before we came to Perth, friends kept reminding us to eat fish and chips in Perth. Well, we searched for fish and chips beside the Fremantle port. Every restaurant sell fish and chips. We just randomly pick one of the restaurant and ordered one fish and chips and one pizza. The portions were big and we 3 were so full. Ask me about the taste of the fish and chips? You try it on your own and share with me, hahaha.... I not so particular on food so I found it was nice when the fish mixed with olive oils.
Thats all for Day 2!
We actually did a budget of AUD32 per person for food per day so added up will be AUD96 for 3 persons. The hostel will be AUD 30 per person per night. We were quite save because normally we order 2 person's meal and enough for us 3. We still able to buy shampoos, biscuits, next day breakfast and veges and fruits without exceeding the budget.

Backpack Trip Perth Australia Day 1

After lunch ( my previous post), we went to check-in Pirates Backpackers Hostel Fremantle. The staff is so friendly. The staff explained to us everything in details and showed us every part of the hostel.
Actually that was our first time to stay at backpacker hostel. We read all those reviews from the website. Some people provided a lot of negative comments, influenced me to think a lot of negative stuff. When I look around the backpacker hostel, I personally felt that: Its not that bad! Surprisingly, it's more comfortable and clean than I thought. Maybe I stayed at hostel during college time, I am used to the sharing environment.
Backpacker hostel more on sharing, sharing the toilets,
kitchen, dining hall, and entertainment room. We been arranged to a 6 person dorm. We had our own lockers. We placed our backpack and headed out again.

Fremantle Market located 2 streets away from the Pirates Backpackers Hostel. We went out to hunt for dinner. We bought breads which cost aussie dollar 4.50 and strawberriesss cost around 3.50-5.00(forgotten how much) in the Fremantle Market. We bought tuna and waters from groceries shop.

We wanted to find a place to eat dinner. We walk to Little Creatures. If you are a beers lover, can stop by Little Creatures to have beers. We not planning to have beers so we just walk pass the shop. In front of Little Creatures is a park. There is quite a number of people jogging around there.

We saw between the shop there is a path to walk towards the seaside. I saw there is a love shape stickers at the bridge and you can sit there to enjoy the beer. Its kinda romantic. We are stalking people in the restaurant because those windows can look through inside.

Walk towards the sea side and found out there are a lot of restaurants facing the sea. Actually we walk there to scan for restaurant to eat 'fish and chips'. We heard alot of people commented that must eat fish and chip. Their fish and chip slightly different from Malaysia's fish and chip. So we walk through every restaurant to search for an affordable fish & chip and nice environment.

We walked to the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. It raining and we three freezing at the harbour there. We are not used to the cold weather especially after the rain. We are thinking if we sit there to eat our dinner. We will be freezing until shaking until we need 2 hours to finish our dinner. I think most of you will be now sitting there laughing at us: Seriously that cold? Well for us stay in Malaysia that whole year hot weather, and first day to the beach side and after the rain, the wind blow and blow, we three shaking freezing and giggling.

So we headed back to the Fremantle Market. There was a place to sit and enjoyed our dinner. It located at one of the gate of the Fremantle Market. The strawberries were sweet. We picked a wholemeal bread. We ate only few pieces bread with tuna and we started to feel full. When we buy the strawberries, we just feel the amounts are ok only but when we started to eat it, we found out the amounts of the strawberries is really alot! We cant finish the strawberries and bread, so we keep it for next day breakfast. We bought milk and headed back to our hostel.

We can ask for a bag from the front desk of the backpackers hostel and keep our food into the bag. Wrote our name on the beg and kept it in the fridge.

While I waiting to go bath, I saw this guy study from noon until night. I was impressed that he can sit there to study for so long time. Oh, I forget to mention about the toilet, although is sharing, they separated the toilet to female toilet and mix toilet. Upstairs have 2 individual female toilet and downstairs mix toilets. The toilet very clean. :)
Finally finish for first day.
Roughly $$ for first day:
Bus from airport to Perth: less than AUD10 for 3 person
Transperth Card : AUD10 for card AUD10 for top up(per person)
Lunch + Dinner + water + other groceries : AUD100 for 3 person
Backpacker Hostel: AUD 100 for 3 person

Backpack Trip Perth Australia Day 1 Morning

24th August 2013
5am reached airport
We reached at about 5 something in the morning.
After we passed through the gate it was 6 something.
The bus going to Perth City starts at 7am.
We bought bread to fill our stomach while waiting for the bus.
As you can see in the pic, we were freeezzzing~
The cold weather in early morning is superb cold.

To catch the bus to Perth City, we had to sit the transit bus from the airport to Terminal 3. From there we only can sit bus to Perth City.
Erhermm, the research of transportation is done by ours Miss.YC.
Me and MM were just following her all around. Thanks YC :P

While we were on the bus heading to Perth City, an old good man sat beside me. I asked him: I am going to Fremantle, do you know which stop should i go down to the train station?
He answered me: I am going to the train station, follow me.
We discussed about Perth, he retired and stay there, he love the place, he pointed me every attractions along the road, explained to me the
story of those places. After we reached the bus stop, he brought us to buy the train ticket and pointed us the library beside the train station. There is where I met a nice old man in Perth.

We bought Transperth card(alike Touch N Go in M'sia) to sit the train.
The last station of the train is Fremantle. The train journey to Fremantle, you might see a nice Seaside view from the train. Fremantle is a port of Perth. We did research that Fremantle Market only open during weekend. So we stayed at Fremantle Saturday, Sunday and leave on Monday.

The special thing is that we can walk pass the railway. We normally need to walk over bridge to pass through the railway. But in Perth, we can walk across the railway. If the train is coming, there is an automated gate close the pathway. I like the design!
From the train station, the nearest attractions is E-Shed Market. We can buy the cheapest souvenirs there. That is our first station so I dare not buy. How regret I am now! Besides the E-Shed Market, there is a
jetty to Rottnest Island but we not enough budget to the island :(
We just follow the map and walk from train station to E-shed Market and just walk around follow the sea-side. We explore by walking randomly.

We wanted to ride the CAT bus, but its too early, the bus haven't operating yet. So we continue walking. We came to Maritime Museum. Need to pay in order to visit the Maritime Museum. We felt that is not necessary to pay so we just stand outside to capture pic only. We are not officially visited the Maritime Museum.
Beside the Maritime Museum, there is a sub marine there.
From there we keep on walking without knowing the destination.

We walk to a beach! Sitting there with best friends and enjoying the cozy wind. Its so relaxing! We enjoy the view, talking and looking at the ocean...

Then just right beside the beach, there is a tunnel through the rock mountain. We headed to the rock mountain and noticed the round house is just right on top of the rock mountain. There is a piano in the round house and YC playing the piano. I capture a nice photo of her playing the piano in the tunnel.

We headed to the round house and the staircase there can view one of the street in Fremantle. The round house is the oldest public building in Fremantle. Its was built to hold any person convicted of a crime.

After visited the Round House we headed to the street we saw to fill up our stomach. We went to Breaks Fremantle to have our lunch. We ordered burger and spaghetti. We shared 2 main course because the portions were big.

Wow, I wrote until here just a Saturday Morning, but I wrote like One Day Trip.
Small Tips, walk around with a map but not fixed the road, you may explore alot of stuff.
